There are many breeds to choose from, but the Border Collie is one of the best. A family pet with an energetic personality, here are some facts about this fantastic dog.

Border Collies are not a common breed choice. They are often found at dog shelters because many owners can’t keep up with the demands of this stamina filled breed. For those looking for a dog with immense energy and training potential, look no further than the Border Collie.

To start, the breed originated out of Scotland. Used for herding sheep, these dogs have intelligence and agility to do just about anything. This is the dog to get if you are looking to teach a variety of tricks. From Frisbee to difficult agility courses this dog has the potential. They will need room to stretch their legs, so ample yardage is a necessity. Also, this dog will get fidgety, anxious, and frustrated if it is not given enough time outside. A regular walking schedule is pertinent.

Collies make for great family pets.

They are great with meeting new people and children. However, they are sensitive to a lot of activity. If you have kids running around chances are your Collie will want to keep up with them by herding, barking, and possibly nipping. Environments with quiet stimulus is ideal. These dogs are also known for chasing after a car or two, so keep an eye on them or they may take off down the street. It is important to train your dog to stay, especially near residential or public roads.

These dogs are one of the most intelligent and hardworking dogs out there. Your Collie will be able to differentiate between your expressions and intonations at an early age. So reprimanding them is easy. They will stop any unwanted behavior with as little as a disappointed expression.

Most Border Collies have long, thick, and colorful hair. Grooming is daily to keep up these beauties coats. They shed often, so if you are not fond of fur everywhere this is not the dog for you.
