If there is one thing we have noticed more of in the pet care space, it is products with CBD in them. And because of that, we wanted to find out why. Why exactly is CBD becoming so popular when it comes to our pets and the products that we are using for them?

In order to learn more about CBD and pet products, we reached out to some experts. Not only did we get Rover's Veterinary Medical Advisor to answer this question for us, but also Small Door Vet's Head of Veterinary Medicine. And both of their answers made perfect sense.

So what exactly did Rover's Dr. Rebecca Greenstein and Small Door Vet's Dr. Jamie Richardson have to say about the increase in CBD in the pet industry?

Why are more pet products using CBD in them?

First we have Dr. Jamie Richardson's response to our question about the increase in CBD products for cats and dogs. According to Dr. Richardson, "CBD is gaining popularity in pet products because of its potential benefits for anxiety, stress, chronic pain, and seizure disorders. While scientific research is still developing, many pet owners report positive results. The increased acceptance of CBD in human medicine has also contributed to its rise in veterinary use. Brands like ElleVet are working with leading veterinary research institutions to better understand how CBD can benefit pets, making high-quality, research-backed products more accessible."

Considering we have heard quite a bit about how CBD can help with stress and anxiety in humans, it does make sense that it might also have the same impact on our pets. Not only that, but we have heard about how it can help people who are in pain, so if it works with our dogs and cats, that makes it even better as a tool in our arsenal for making our pets feel better. All of this to say that if CBD works on dogs and cats, then we want to know more about it.

But what exactly did Dr. Greenstein have to say about this topic? She actually had a few points regarding the popularity of CBD in our pet products.

"- as the legalization of cannabis for people has swept many parts of the country, there has been a general uptick in its human consumption and public awareness and acceptance
- some pet parents are seeking alternatives to traditional pharmaceuticals which can sometimes have unpleasant side effects
- given the number of pets suffering from arthritis, cancer, and anxiety, to name a few, it makes sense that there would be increased interest in supplements that might have therapeutic value in these conditions"
Dr. Rebecca Greenstein

Honestly, all of these reasons make sense as well. And we just want our pets to be happy and healthy. So if CBD can help make this happen, then we are here for that.

If CBD is actually a solid alternative to more traditional products and it works, then we are more than happy to use it as a tool in our arsenal. Of course, we will continue to really dive into these products before we use them with our pets, and we highly recommend discussing these things with your veterinarian as well.
