What type of bird is Snoopy’s best friend Woodstock?
Have you ever wondered what type of bird Woodstock from the Peanuts cartoons was? Considering he is one of Snoopy‘s best friends, it makes sense that there would be some curiosity over this rather iconic yellow bird.
We already know that Snoopy is a Beagle. In fact, there is an entire comic dedicated to the Beagle Scouts. And yes, Woodstock and his fellow yellow birds are all part of Snoopy’s Scout group.
Not only are we curious about what type of bird Woodstock is, but obviously he has his flock with him as well, which means that finding out what type of bird he is will reveal what type of bird they are. That’s not to say that any of those birds are better than Snoopy in his eyes, but we want to know what exactly are these yellow feathered birds that have a fondness for our boy Snoopy.
When it comes to the official word from the Peanuts website, even Woodstock doesn’t know what type of bird he is. He knows that he’s not very good at flying. But that doesn’t negate the fact that he is in fact a bird.
As USA Today points out, over the years, there has been a lot of speculation as to what type of bird Woodstock is. Even Snoopy himself has tried to crack the case. Some consider Woodstock to be a canary (it’s all those yellow feathers), while still others think he might be a dove.
In a series of cartoons, where Snoopy tries to figure out what type of bird his friend is, the guesses range from a warbler to a duck. Basically even Snoopy has no idea.
Considering it took three years worth of appearances in the comics before Snoopy even found out what Woodstock’s name was, it actually makes sense that we have no idea what type of bird he really is. So whether you think that he is a canary, a warbler, or as Snoopy exasperatedly declares, a duck, at least we know that he is in fact, Snoopy‘s best friend.
What type of bird do you think Woodstock is?
