The Chihuahua might be one of the smallest dog breeds, but that does not mean that they don’t have a larger than life personality. In fact, there are running jokes about Chihuahuas that include them being fierce, protective, and maybe even a little over the top.
Over the years, the Chihuahua has been a popular breed for many famous people and influencers. In fact, Paris Hilton herself is a well-known Chihuahua owner. And at one point, the Chihuahua was the official mascot of Taco Bell. There is a lot of history when it comes to this particular dog breed.
So knowing all of this, it makes us wonder what kind of person owns a Chihuahua. What does being a Chihuahua owner say about you? In order to really dive into what being a Chihuahua owner says about you, though, we have to look at what the breed is known for, especially in terms of temperament.
What does owning a Chihuahua say about you?
According to the American Kennel Club, this is a breed of dog that is very affectionate with their owners. They are not often recommended for families with small children, in part because they are known to be aggressive. However, training goes a long way with any dog.
On top of their affection and aggressiveness, other aspects of their temperament that are important to note include that they are very devoted dogs, they have a lot of courage, and they can be very lively. This is a dog breed that is known for being very sassy, while also charming. And we kind of love that. They are not the most open to strangers, in fact, they would definitely be more on the reserved side. However, they can be very playful. If you’re looking for a very protective dog, this is the one for you. At the same time they’re a very adaptable dog, they don’t necessarily need a fixed routine to be happy.
So what does all of that mean when it comes to you and your personality as the owner of a Chihuahua? I’m so glad you asked.
I would have to say that much like the breed itself, someone who owns a Chihuahua is going to be very reserved, at least around people they don’t know. Someone who owns a Chihuahua is going to be more sensitive and loyal, similar to their dog, while also being family oriented and all about spending time with their people (whether friends or family).
Chihuahua owners may be more about their gut instinct, and they will have a patience that allows them to get along better with more people. They are all about comfort, and can be high maintenance at times.
As someone who has been around a number of people who own Chihuahuas, I have to say that one thing that I noticed with every one of them is that they can be very quiet until they get to know you. And once they know you, and they feel comfortable with you, they have no problem speaking their mind. It’s not so much that they are introverted, as they are cautious in who they accept into their inner circle.
The Chihuahua is a small but mighty dog, and that means they need an owner who has a similar personality.
