There is a new Best in Show in town, after the AKC National Championship presented by Royal Canin, crowned a Giant Schnauzer named Monty as the winner for 2024. While the competition airs just in time for New Year’s, it actually takes place earlier in December. (So we’ve had a new winner for about two weeks now.)
The competition featured over 5600 competitors. And this really is one of the biggest dog shows in the nation. It takes place in Orlando, Florida, and we’ve actually been to this competition in the past, so we know how big it really is. There are so many dogs that enter this competition and yet we have just one best in show.
Monty of course won in his class, the working group, and proved that the bigger dogs can win just as easily as the littler dogs. And we love to see it, as it often feels like the smaller dogs win the titles at these shows more often. But even our reserve winner is a larger breed. And in case you were wondering, the reserve best in show winner was a pup named Louis, who is actually an Afghan Hound.
Monty takes the crown as Best in Show at the AKC National Championship
Our best in show winner comes from Connecticut. And this is not his first big win or title. In fact, he has been crowned America’s national champion as well. So it likely comes as no surprise that Monty is heading to Westminster.
We would love to see this gorgeous pup take the crown there as well. But, it also sounds like Monty is a true working dog. He seems to love to put on a show and get to work. So while he may take a little bit of time between now and his next competition to relax, we expect that Monty will be doing the work to prove that he has what it takes to be best in show no matter where he pops up.
