After a three week hiatus, Will Trent was back with its fourth episode of Season 2, and luckily for us, there was plenty of Betty to enjoy. If you have been following our coverage of the series for a while, now, then you know that we are always on Betty watch. And we were excited to not only see the beloved pup in this episode, but we were happy with the way they incorporated her into the storyline.

Betty’s addition in the episode, “It's Easier to Handcuff a Human Being,” really felt natural. It makes sense to see Betty bring her leash to Will while he is talking to someone near the front door of the house. And it made sense to see her sitting next to Nico while they’re talking on the phone. Even the final scene of the episode saw Will sitting on his couch getting ready to make a phone call to his uncle with Betty at his side.

All three of these scenes were meant to be emotional in even a very small way. That is because all three scenes revolved around will potentially connecting with someone from his biological family. And considering his history, it makes sense that this would be very difficult for him. So in these more difficult moments, having Betty at his side just makes sense. Unlike in the previous episode of Will Trent where it felt like they were forcing the Betty moment, the show made the right decision in their use of the pup as an emotional crutch.

As an investigator, Will Trent is brilliant. But he is so much more than that. And with Betty at his side, we get to to see that. We get to see his softer side and we get his who he could be as a friend and family member. His relationship with Betty is so pure and beautiful and that is why we tune in.
