Every week that there is a new episode of Will Trent on ABC, we tune in to not only watch Will solve interesting cases, but also for his dog, Betty. Since the beginning of the series, we have been on what we like to call Betty watch.

While there have been a few episodes that felt like they were forcing the Betty moments in order to keep her relevant and present in the series, for the most part, Will Trent has found a way to make every scene with this adorable pup count. And the Season 2 finale, "Do You See the Vision?," was no exception.

Betty was actually a major part of the Season 2 finale, even as this was a heartbreaker of an episode. Will is able to determine information about the serial killer that they have been tracking alongside Angie's partner, Ormewood, and his own partner, Faith. And after Angie gets a job offer that leads her to the GBI office and the board where they have been keeping track of their case, things break down for her in a way that has likely ended not only her career, but also her relationship with Will for good.

This episode broke down into days of the week, and we got to see the days broken down by what is going on with Will (and Faith), as well as what happens with Angie, who hasn't been to work because of an injury on the job. Every day, we see Betty in her outfit of the day, and in one case, Betty is the break in the case that Will needs to figure out how the killer is making their kills.

But it is when Angie truly figures out who the murderer is and goes to confront that individual, that we see everything fall apart for Angie and in the end Will. Because Angie broke the law and in doing so, she is a major reason why there is a serial killer on the loose.

What was truly heartbreaking about this episode, was the final scenes, where we get to see what could have been for Angie and Will, as we watch them get married with Betty at their side, have a family, actually lose Betty, and even bring home a new puppy. These two grow old together in a series of moments that will never actually happen. Instead, the reality is that Will ends up arresting Angie and in doing so, he breaks both of their hearts.

In the final moments of the season finale, we learn that Will is gone and he took Betty with him. We don't know where he has gone or even when he will return. But perhaps the only comfort we have in this moment is the knowledge that he is not alone, because he has Betty at his side.

We can't wait for Season 3 of Will Trent to see what comes next for Betty and Will, as well as Angie and even Ormewood. But after that heartbreaker of an episode, we may need some time to recover.

What did you think of the Season 2 finale of Will Trent? Were you shocked by what went down? What did you think of the Betty moments in this episode?
