When it comes to popular animated movies, there are always a few questions after it premieres such as when are we getting a sequel to The Garfield Movie or will Garfield's story continue in a series?

While a Garfield sequel would be welcome by some, that's a debate for another day. Instead, we're going to be talking about the latter option. Of course, all of this predicates on if The Garfield Movie does as well as we're imagining it well.

Given that it's coming out over Memorial Day Weekend, it seems as though the studio knew The Garfield Movie was going to be successful. Even if it isn't, that doesn't always mean it's dead in the water as some shows are the by-product of a sequel not being made.

If The Garfield Movie does end up branching off into a series, what will this new Garfield series look like?

What would a series after The Garfield Movie look like?

Let me start this off by saying that I haven't yet watched The Garfield Movie but if you have, feel free to sound off on your thoughts on this topic. However, since I've watched some of the other Garfield series and the 2000s films, I feel like I can still break down what a possible series would look like.

One idea would be a buddy-comedy with Garfield and Odie. While it seems like Garfield tolerates Odie at best, the two are truly friends. Seeing them paired up to go on adventures and have fun seems like it would have mass appeal. Plus I feel like Odie is one of the few Garfield characters who doesn't get as much love as he deserves.

Another option would be for the show to take an entirely different perspective. Most of the time, we're just following Garfield's perspective but I think it could be fun to follow Jon's perspective. Despite his ties to Garfield, we truly don't know that much about him. In a series, we could learn a bit more about him while also seeing his thoughts and feelings on Garfield.

The last option would be for us to get a series focused on Odie. Even though I've already brought up Odie once, he's just such an underutilized character. We know that Garfield is the main attraction but any show or movie wouldn't be the same without Odie. Odie never seems to get the love and it's time for us to finally get a series focused on him.

Overall if things get well with The Garfield Movie, it won't surprise me if we get both a sequel and TV series featuring the beloved orange kitty. Until then though, there are plenty of great Garfield TV series to watch that was previously released.
