With so many recognized dog breeds in the U.S. and even across the world, determining the popularity of different breeds is hard. After all, we all have our favorite dogs and the ones we love the most for whatever reason. However, as we head into 2024 one study has figured out the most searched for dogs across the country.
In order to determine popularity of the different breeds, it seems that PetLab decided to take a look at people's searches for dogs that they were considering either adopting or buying. And according to KRON4, this study lead them to figure out the five most popular dog breeds across the country, with one standing head and paws above the rest.
After looking at 12 months worth of data, the study determined that the Golden Retriever is not only the most popular dog breed in the U.S. (which is absolutely not surprising in the least), but it is actually the most popular pup in a whopping 38 states. On top of that, some of states where the Golden Retriever is at the top of the list includes New York, Florida, and California, which are three very big states with a lot of people living in them.
But what are some of the other popular dog breeds?
The five most popular dog breeds based on online searches includes the ever lovable Golden Retriever
Beyond the Golden Retriever, the other popular breeds in order are:
- Golden Retriever
- French Bulldog
- The Bernese Mountain Dog (This was a bit of a shock but also these dogs are amazing.)
- Newfoundland
- Dogo Argentino (This was also a surprise since we didn't think this was a popular breed, especially considering the band on them in the U.K.)
Honestly, it is fascinating to learn what dog breeds are the most popular and the most searched for in the country. And at the same time, at least two of the breeds on the list make perfect sense as they are already so popular. These are the pups that consistently rank in popularity year after year.
What do you think of these findings? Are you at all surprised by these findings? Which breed surprised you the most?
