There are some Olympic athletes that are so iconic that even when they walk away from the games, they remain in the public eye in some way. Lolo Jones is definitely one of those athletes. And considering she even competed in the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials at the age of 41, it makes sense that she is a cultural icon in her own way.

So when we learned that she had been a part of the Purina Pro Plan Fueled By docuseries, we were intrigued. That is because the purpose of this docuseries is to give athletic pet parents a chance to show off how they push themselves to be their very best, while also doing the same for their dogs. In that regard, it makes sense that Purina would want to work with Lolo Jones.

We had the chance to ask Jones about working with Purina, challenges that she has faced as a pet parent, and more. So what did she have to say about this project?

Lolo Jones answers Dog O'Day's questions about being a pet parent and working with Purina Pro Plan on their Fueled By series

Dog O'Day: What inspired you to work on this campaign with Purina?

"As an athlete, I pay a ton of attention to what I’m consuming to fuel my body and can only hope to give that same level of care to my dog. I focus on a protein rich diet that helps me build muscles and aminos that help me with recovery after a hard workout. Loki often runs with me so why wouldn’t I want him to have the same recovery to charge the hill right next to me? That’s why I like Purina sport because it has high protein, omegas to help his joints and aminos and DHA to nourish his smart brain."

Dog O'Day: What is one thing you hope people take away from this project?

"I hope people realize that eating the right food is just as important as exercising when it comes to staying healthy, and it shouldn’t be overlooked as often as it is. Hours in the gym or working out don’t reveal the same results if you’re not eating right as well and that holds true for our pets too. "

Dog O'Day: What are some challenges you have faced as a pet parent?

"Loki is a super high energy dog so finding new and creative ways to get his energy out was a challenge for me at first. I’m a full-time athlete so at the end of a long day of practice, I’m not always looking to go out for long walks with my dog but that hasn’t stopped me from exercising with him. I’ve found rollerblading to be a really fun low impact way to burn off some of his energy and I love to teach him new tricks indoors as well."

Dog O'Day: What is the best part of being a pet parent?

"It has to be coming home to your pet any time you leave the house - Loki is always sitting there ready to greet me and play together."

Dog O'Day: What are some tips you have for being active, while also taking into account your dog's needs?

"Similar to above, it’s really just finding that balance between what fits into my daily schedule and still benefits Loki. I’ve found training, rollerblading or long walks, and indoor puzzles / pet games to be really beneficial for him."

Dog O'Day: What is something you have learned about yourself thanks to having a dog in your life?

"That routine and companionship are essential for mental health. I got Loki after the pandemic hit. At the I was struggling with insomnia because my whole world shifted, everything was shut down. I had no routine When I got Loki he was not potty trained so I put all my energy into training him. He needed walks and feeding at certain times so I could no longer mope in bed and stay depressed he naturally forced me to get a routine and his companionship really cheered me up. Routine and companionship drastically improved my mental health, and it made me remember the companionship whether it’s animal or human is so vital and also is routine."

Dog O'Day: If you were any dog breed, what would you be and why?

"This is such a hard question but a fun one. I would probably take the hair of a Golden Doodle, the intelligence of a Poodle, the body size of a Weimaraner, the sweetness of a Golden Retriever. "
