Livvy Dunne talks to us about her partnership with Purina Pro Plan, and of course her dog

As we head into the summer, there is one sporting event that is on a lot of people's minds. And that is the Olympics. And while there are a number of summer sports that are the highlight of our Olympic watch parties, Gymnastics is definitely in the top five. For fans of gymnastics, you might recognize Livvy Dunne.

Thanks to her career as both a gymnast for LSU and as part of the U.S. national team, Dunne knows what it takes to fuel an active lifestyle. And it makes sense that she would also know the importance of proper nutrition, both personally and for her dog. So of course, that is where Purina Pro Plan and their new Fueled By docuseries come into the picture.

Livvy Dunne has joined Erin Andrews, Michael Phelps, and Lolo Jones in partnering with Purina Pro Plan on this unique docuseries where they talk about their commitment to an active lifestyle and the importance of nutrition, especially in relation to their careers and their pets.

We had the chance to chat with Dunne about her partnership with Purina, as well as what it is like to be a pet parent to her dog, Roux.

Dog O'Day: What made you want to work with Purina Pro Plan for the Fueled By docuseries?

"It's a match made in heaven with my little puppy named Roux. She is a puppy, so I only want to put the best ingredients into her body, so she can be healthy and strong and live a long life. And I felt by starting her off with Purina Pro Plan Sport, I feel like that was just a great match. And also I love what Pro Plan stands for. "

Dog O'Day: What kind of dog is Roux?

"She is an English Cream [Golden] Retriever."

Dog O'Day: What do you hope that people take away from this project?

"I hope that my relationship with Roux is super transparent and you can really feel my love for my dog through the screen. And also how she keeps me calm through my crazy life, because I'm always traveling, I'm training and the way that she keeps me grounded. And I I hope that people see that, and they can feel that, because dogs have such a special energy and it's just I'm excited. I'm excited to see the Docuseries and I hope that is shown."

Dog O'Day: What are some challenges that you face especially as a pet parent and a new pet parent?

"I wish she could be everywhere with me at all times. It's my biggest challenge. She's a bit bigger, so she can't fly with me on planes, but I do my best to bring her, most of the time everywhere I go. So I wish Roux could always be with me. "

Dog O'Day: So what is the best part of being a pet parent, for you?

"Probably even on days where I'm just chilling or it's an off day, she still gets me up. She wants to play. She's active. She's healthy, she's strong. And she wants to play outside so she gets me up. She keeps me active and I just think that's a super important component to a healthy lifestyle."

Dog O'Day: If you were any dog breed, what would you be and why?

"You know, I think it's super funny, because the other day when I was in Pittsburgh and I brought Roux with me, someone came up to me and they were like, you know how sometimes owners look like their dog and the dog looks like their owner, someone was like 'you look like your dog and your dog looks like you.' So I would say an English Cream Retriever."
