How to tell if your dog has allergies according to an expert
With the season changing and leaves falling, it feels like more of us are dealing with allergies than ever before. And that includes our dogs.
Although seasonal allergies are certainly something that we should all be aware of, we are also trying to pay attention to any signs and symptoms that pop up with our dogs that might be related to an allergic reaction. All things considered, we want to know if there is a problem early on so it can be addressed with our pet's veterinarian.
We reached out to some experts to find out what are some signs that your dog might have allergies and thankfully, we got a response from Dr. Antje Joslin at Dogtopia. Dr. Joslin has answered quite a few pet health questions for us recently, and it has been a great way for us to learn more about our pets and what we need to be mindful of.
How can you tell if your dog has allergies?
The question we had for Dr. Joslin was: What are some signs that your dog has allergies?
"Signs that your dog has environmental or food allergies most commonly include itching

especially around the face, paws, and ears, which may also include red, inflamed skin or rashes.
Dogs with frequent ear infections or shaking of the head often have underlying allergies. Some dogs may have respiratory signs such as coughing, sneezing and watery eyes or nose but these are less common than the dermatologic symptoms. Some dogs with food allergies may also have hives, vomiting or diarrhea."
Honestly, this answer makes perfect sense and really breaks down what we need to be mindful of as pet parents. It can also ease our minds a bit, as it feels like allergies is something that we can handle over an even more serious health issue.
Knowing what to look out for is the first step towards better understanding and taking care of our dogs. And we appreciate Dr. Joslin for taking the time to really break down the signs of allergies that our pups might exhibit.
