Ever since Disney first introduced Lilo and Stitch, we have been in love with this mischievous, but adorable blue alien. We love his story and we love the family that he builds with Lilo. However, we have often wondered how Disney categorizes this fuzzy blue experiment.
This lead us to the question of whether or not Stitch is considered a Disney dog. Honestly, when we first think of Stitch, we don’t think of a dog. We think of an escaped alien with a love of family. But, it does seem like Disney see Stitch as a Disney dog.
Does Disney categorize Stitch as a Disney Dog?
If you ever look at products that state Disney dogs, for instance the Disney collaboration with Dooney and Bourke, you will find that Stitch is often in the mix. And even in the regular Disney merchandise on the Disney store we can see Stitch being included in things like prints titled "Disney Dogs 'So Many Disney Dogs.'" Maybe that’s just because he’s adorable and they want to include him, but at that point it is a rather obvious agreement from Disney that Stitch is a dog.

Now, as fans of Stitch, we know that’s not the case. He’s really not a dog, even if Lilo did try to pass him off as one (for obvious reasons). But we as Disney lovers know that Stitch simply not a dog. He is an experiment, Experiment 626 to be exact. He is an alien. (And technically, there is an alien category if you mix in Pixar.)
However, if Disney is going to see Stitch as a dog, then so are we. We are not going to deny Stitch his place among the other iconic Disney dogs. And maybe it’s me, but I would not be mad if we got to see Stitch playing with other dogs from Disney, like Pluto, Pongo, Dug or even Dodger. In fact, I think that would be adorable and maybe even a little worrisome.
