As pet parents, we know that there are some products that our dogs cannot eat. And there are some types of peanut butter that our dogs should not eat because of their ingredient list. Any peanut butter that has xylitol as an ingredient is not safe for dogs. And we know this. However, if it is a more natural peanut butter, it is said to be safe for dogs.
But just because something is safe for dogs does not mean that your dog is going to enjoy it. And if you have a dog who hates peanut butter, you are not alone. Much like with humans, dogs are very individual and what they like. Not only can they have allergies like we can, but they are partial to specific flavors.
We wanted to know if there were other dogs out there who hate peanut butter, because our staff pup is not really a fan. It has to be blended with a bunch of other things for her to enjoy something that has peanut butter in it. But she is not going to lick a spoonful of peanut butter and be excited about it.
And if there’s one place, we can count on to find other like-minded people it would have to be Reddit. And we fell down a bit of a rabbit hole of pet parents talking about the fact that their dog does not like peanut butter.
It’s not uncommon for a dog to dislike peanut butter
Although people seem to assume that all dogs like peanut butter, that’s simply not the case. Dogs are just like people in that they have preferences. And we should be mindful of that.
For years, the topic of why a dog doesn’t like peanut butter has been a discussion on sites like Reddit, which we appreciate as it makes us feel less alone when it comes to our dog’s preferences. But it does seem to be something that people don’t talk about enough. Nobody wants to talk about the things that our pets don’t like. All we seem to focus on is what they can eat.
And it does make sense that we are just focusing, normally, on what is safe for our dogs to eat. That is one of the more important aspects of taking care of our dogs. However, we also need to be mindful of what they enjoy. A dog is not going to eat something they hate. Just like we won’t. There’s nothing wrong with your dog if they hate peanut butter, and it should be noted that they are not alone.
So if Fluffy is at home, turning his nose up at a spoonful of peanut butter, have no fear, he’s not abnormal. He’s just letting his preferences be known.
