Thanks to MeTV Toons, a lot of classic cartoons have been given new life. And one of those cartoons is actually the Hanna-Barbera series, 2 Stupid Dogs.
Originally released in 1993 and running just two seasons, 2 Stupid Dogs was basically considered to be a play off of Ren & Stimpy. The difference with this series was that the two dogs didn't actually have names. We knew what breed both dogs were, their personalities were very distinct, but they were simply known as Big Dog and Little Dog.
Little Dog was actually a high energy, high maintenance, chatty Dachshund with a fear of cats. Big Dog on the other hand was a more quiet and reserved pup, with the ability to scare off the little cat that scared Little Dog with his bark. Apparently Big Dog was an English Sheepdog, which does seem to align with his personality traits in the series.
While 2 Stupid Dogs didn't really have the most complex storylines, somehow what they did worked. And even though the series only got two seasons, there was something about the show that made it worth watching.
As a fan of Hanna-Barbera cartoons, even a show like 2 Stupid Dogs is worth watching at least once. And if there is a chance for more dog-centric TV shows, then count us in.
I would love it if they decided to give 2 Stupid Dogs a new chance to shine, especially if they actually gave the two dogs names. Even if they were never really called their names, it would be interesting to see how actual names changed things in terms of potential storylines.
Honestly, this series is about the jokes and comedy of it all, as well as the chance to showcase the every day lives of our dogs. It would be nice to have more animated dogs on our screens and if they happen to come from Hanna-Barbera, then that makes it even better. It feels like a reboot of this series could pave the way for more Hanna-Barbera dogs to get a new chance to shine.
While this series might not sound (or even feel) like one you would expect to kick off a reboot or refresh of the Hanna-Barbera back catalog, there is something about this more simplistic series that seems like it would call to a new batch of viewers. Plus, it is possible that nostalgia and even the new viewers introduced to the characters through MeTV Toons could end up giving these two dogs a whole new lease on life.
