It feels like there are more and more recalls happening over the last few years. And it is not just happening in the human food realm, it is also impacting pet food. But did you know that there is currently a recall on puppy food because of suspected Salmonella.
According to Kinship, a pet food company out of North Carolina is recalling their Puppy Mix over concerns that there has been Salmonella contamination. The brand in question is Blue Ridge Beef and the recall applies to their "two-pound dog Puppy Mix."
The Blue Ridge Beef puppy food was sold in seven states between August 6 and August 23. Which states were impacted? That would be Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland and, of course, North Carolina.
Blue Ridge Beef is recalling some of their puppy food because of Salmonella
For anyone wondering about how Salmonella can impact our pets, and especially puppies, it can lead to fever, diarrhea, dehydration, vomiting, lethargy and more. While most older dogs may not get sick from Salmonella, puppies are still developing their immune system, so they are more susceptible to sickness.
According to the reports about this recall news, "In November, dog parents reported to the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services that a litter of puppies had gotten sick after consuming these Blue Ridge products. The FDA sent a notice on Nov. 27 that the food had tested positive for Salmonella."
Obviously this food was sold back in August, so it is entirely possible that you may not even have the food in your home anymore, but just in case, it is important to check your puppy's food if it is from Blue Ridge and if it features "lot number 08/06/N25 and 08/16/N25, or UPC number 854298001696."
Honestly, we would absolutely be checking our puppy's food if we had Blue Ridge in our homes. And we appreciate the fact that the brand is making sure that pet parents have a way to reach out (their email is blueridgebeefnc@yahoo.com) if you have any concerns or find that you have a batch of the potentially contaminated food.
