The French Bulldog has grown in popularity significantly in the last 11 years. According to the American Kennel Club, in 2012, they were in the fourteenth spot, then moved to the number one spot in 2022, and they were named the number one spot again in 2023.

These bright, playful pups are incredibly adaptable, and their size makes it easy to bring them everywhere. People continue to gravitate toward the French Bulldog because they are excellent additions to numerous lifestyles.

2. Pembroke Welsh Corgi

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi, originating in Pembrokeshire, Wales, is named after the Welsh word for "dwarf dog." Given their tiny legs, their name fits them perfectly. However, do not be fooled; they have huge personalities and take their herding instincts seriously.

These adorable herding dogs are brilliant and also highly loving towards their owners. The Royal Family consistently favors this breed, which has only increased their popularity.

3. Poodle

The Poodle is easy to spot with their signature curly hair. But they are known for more than just good looks. They are popular because of their smart, affectionate, and active personalities.

These well-tempered, highly trainable dogs have been utilized recently to create a variety of mixed breeds such as the Goldendoodle, Labradoodle, and Bernedoodle. These mixes have also been gaining popularity, but their fame would not be possible without the original, purebred Poodle.

4. Dachshund

Also known as a "wiener dog" or "sausage dog," the Dachshund is recognizable by their short legs, long body, and hound-like features. Do not be fooled by their small size; they are incredibly headstrong and mischievous.

Dachshunds want to be wherever their owners are and want to be doing whatever their owners are doing. However, due to their tiny legs, these adorable canines are not made for lengthy running, jumping, or swimming. This breed is more adept with activities that require them to use their noses, such as puzzle toys and tracking.

5. German Shorthaired Pointers

The German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) is known for their speed, endurance, and agility. Often used as hunting companions, the GSP got their name because as they hunt, they will point when trailing a scent of whatever animal they are tracking.

It may seem odd, considering many other hunting breeds have endless energy, but the GSP is usually low-maintenance. They are content to spend part of their day fetching, running, or hunting, but they are also content to snuggle with their human and relax.

These 5 breeds are continuing to capture the hearts of people everywhere. From the charming and robust French Bulldog to the tracking skills of the German Shorthaired Pointer, these breeds are gaining popularity and becoming household favorites.
