If there is one character from the Peanuts comics that is truly iconic, it would have to be Snoopy. While Charlie Brown is definitely up there in terms of being an iconic character, Snoopy has definitely been a scene stealer repeatedly. And it’s because of Snoopy that we have so many specials. As fans, we have to say that this is a character who has truly changed the way we look at dogs in entertainment.

When we think of Snoopy, we think of a lot of things. He’s been a racecar driver, a fighter pilot, a musician, and we all know that he is a writer. And as a writer and book lover, we wanted to figure out what books Snoopy would be a fan of.

According to peanuts.com, it sounds like Snoopy is a fan of those classic literature because as they shared, “Snoopy reads War and Peace at the rate of one word a day.” But, we wanted to find some other classics that might inspire him. And while there are a lot of books to choose from, based on some of his adventures and his writing style, we think these five books would absolutely be something that Snoopy enjoyed.

5 Classic books we think Snoopy has either read or would read

When thinking about which books to choose for Snoopy, we wanted to find Classics that might inspire him. We wanted books that reminded us of his attempts at writing the next great novel. And we really wanted them to be classics that many people had read before.

One author that really stood out to me, was Edgar Allan Poe. And so I had to include one of his classics in the list. But which book was it? Here are the five classic books that I figured Snoopy might be a fan of, especially if he is reading War and Peace.

  1. The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe
  2. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
  3. Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison
  4. The Call of the Wild by Jack London
  5. The Incredible Journey by Sheila Burnford

Not only are these classics, but two of them are also books featuring dogs in some way. And we can’t imagine Snoopy not reading a classic literary work with dogs. Whether or not Snoopy would actually read these books, we don’t know. But based on what he is currently reading, I think we have a good shot.
