Chihuahua

This one might come as a surprise, but the Chihuahua is actually a solid choice for a guard dog. According to The Scotsman, these dogs can be extremely alert and vocal. They will instantly let people know if they feel threatened. Not only that, but these are fierce dogs. We all know that they bark loud and their bite can be vicious. They may be small, but they are mighty.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Also known as the Staffy, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier can be a small to medium size dog. They are very intelligent and they learn fast. These dogs are very muscular as well, which can help in terms of being a solid guard dog.
