Being a reader and a pet parent isn't always the easiest combination. However, we're here to help you out by putting the two together with dogs and romance books. It's truly a match made in heaven if you think about it.
Dogs can be the catalyst of why people want to start a relationship, help to ensure there's a meet-cute or just need some zest to a book. Thankfully, we're all about dogs and we're also readers so there was no way we weren't going to combine the two.
Before getting into the books, these are all books I haven't previously read. However, I have read previous works by most of these authors so I can attest to that. If anything, this might be the push you need to finally spend that Barnes & Noble gift card or make a trip the bookstore while you're running errands.
Regardless, you're sure to find something new to read or at least, add to your TBR before you plan any summer activities for you and your pup.
These 4 romance books are great for dog lovers.
1. Like Cats & Dogs by Lizzie Shane
The first book going on our TBR is Like Cat & Dogs by Lizzie Shane. This is one I saw pop up earlier in 2025 but have yet to pick it up. It is the 6th book in a series, so you can get caught up or start with this book; it's up to you. This book follows two bakers who are longtime rivals who end up taking their feud to the next level via a reality TV show. Sounds like it's going to be dramatic and juicy, plus reviewers have mentioned how one is a cat person and the other is a dog person, which is always an interesting dynamic.
Like Cats & Dogs was released in November 2024, so you should be able to find it at your local library and on Amazon. With it being the 6th book in the series, you can also find the other dogtastic tales, which all feature dogs in their titles.
2. Pugs and Kisses by Farrah Rochon
Since we talked about and reviewed her previous puppy book, I had to feature Pugs and Kisses by Farrah Rochon. While it's unclear what the name of the series is, the first book was Pardon My Frenchie which is a book I really enjoyed. It's an incredibly underrated one so I had to make sure I showed some love to Pugs and Kisses ahead of its release.
Pugs and Kisses is being released on July 15th, 2025. This is described as a second-chance romance between dog lovers and it follows them as they work to save an animal shelter which sounds darling. Whether you're a pet parent or not, you need to pick these two books by Farrah Rochon as they're delightful.
3. Finding Mr. July by Anna E. Collins
This is another author whose book we read and reviewed last year. Now, we're getting another book with pups at the helm which is Finding Mr. July. Before getting into that, you might recognize her 2024 release which was Worst in Show. If you're a dog lover and haven't read that one, then you're truly missing out.
Unlike the previous book, this one leans into the workplace trend as we're following an opposites-attract couple who have to come together for a fundraiser of cuteness. It's a calendar featuring hotties with doggies, and who can say no to that? Given how fun Worst in Show was, you don't want to miss Finding Mr. July on July 1st, 2025.
4. Heart Off Paws by Simone Niy
The final book on the list is one I found while doing research. This one is an indie-published title and frankly has hardly any ratings. However, the ratings it does have are promising. This follows two characters who end up meeting because of their dogs, and it's clear they'll eventually have their own romance. It sounds adorable and perfect if you're just looking for a fun beach read or need something to enjoy while your dog is lounging outside.
These are just some of the books featuring dogs we have on our TBRs. No doubt there are plenty of other great romances to add to the list, but with summer almost here, we're just sharing 4. Hopefully, they end up being as lovable as your favorite pup.
