Why Peanuts will never make the Fandoms of the Year list

I WANT A DOG FOR CHRISTMAS, CHARLIE BROWN! - This holiday season, ABC once again airs the PEANUTS Christmas special "I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown," produced and animated by the same team that gave us the other, now classic cartoon specials based on Charles M. Schulz's famed comic strip. "I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown" airs SUNDAY, DEC. 22 (7:00-8:00 p.m. EST), on ABC. "I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown" centers on ReRun, the lovable but ever-skeptical younger brother of Linus and Lucy. It's Christmas vacation and, as usual, ReRun's big sister is stressing him out, so he decides to turn to his best friend, Snoopy, for amusement and holiday cheer. However, his faithful but unpredictable beagle companion has plans of his own, giving ReRun reason to ask Snoopy to invite his canine brother Spike for a visit. When Spike shows up, it looks like ReRun will have a dog for Christmas after all - but then the real trouble begins. (© 2003 United Feature Syndicate Inc.)

The 2023 Fandoms of the Year List is finally here and features some of our favorite shows, movies, and celebrities. Some franchises tend to supersede the list and one of those is the Peanuts franchise.

Since this is a dog-focused site, we mostly talk about Snoopy as he’s Charlie Brown’s dog along with being a favorite character. The whole Peanuts gang is important, though as we have Charlie Brown, Sally, Linus, Lucy, Schroeder, Woodstock, Franklin, Pig-Pen, and many more.

For the most part though, Snoopy is the one who gets the most love and attention. Plus he’s a dog and we all love dogs. Then again, Snoopy feels much less like a dog and more like a figure for the  franchise.

Even though this franchise likely won’t end up on any Fandom of the Year lists, Peanuts has truly made its mark beyond this year.

Peanuts illudes the 2023 Fandoms of the Year list for good reason.

While most of the fixtures on the list have been there before, Peanuts is much more than just one category. Most of us know that the characters originally began as a comic strip and then morphed into much more than that. With TV shows, specials, and lots of merchandise, the comic strip has truly transcended anything the creator might have imagined.

Whether you’re new to Peanuts or have loved them for decades, there is no denying the impact of Snoopy and his beloved sidekick, Woodstock. The two have been working together for decades and even made a recent appearance at the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. There is also an upcoming original movie along with many other projects in the works at Apple.

With all the love surrounding the franchise, especially Snoopy, there is truly no metric to prove just how popular it all is. Money is a good indicator but looking at all the merch, shows and various other items doesn’t tell us everything. People have grown up with Snoopy and his friends which is truly what remains.

No matter, if you’ve found yourself grabbing a Snoopy blanket in the store, sharing the specials with the little ones in your life, or like reading the Peanuts comics, the love for this group of characters, will never fade. It will also never be part of a Fandom of the Year list because the Peanuts gang is timeless.

Next. There is now a Peanuts Monopoly game. dark
