When it comes to adopting your next pup, Dr. Aziza Glass is reminding us why a senior dog might be the perfect companion for you and your family.

As not only the expert veterinarian for Freshpet, but also someone we have seen on our TV screens thanks to Disney Plus and the Disney Channel, we can’t help but appreciate the fact that Dr. Glass is speaking up about the benefits of adding a senior dog to one’s home. After all, the older dogs are usually the ones that seem to be left behind and forgotten the most.

We are all about making sure that all dogs (and cats) are able to find their forever homes, but we also know that a senior dog or cat is less likely to be adopted. However, we think that should change. And so does Dr. Aziza Glass.

According to a press email we received on behalf of Freshpet, there are a number of reasons why people should consider adopting a senior dog first.

Why adopting a senior dog is the right way to go when adding a new pup to the family

So what are the top reasons to adopt a senior dog according to Dr. Glass?

"Senior pets are typically already trained and understand commands.Seniors are also big on companionship and seem to appreciate a second chance family.Seniors aren’t rambunctious like puppies. They tend to be more easy-going and ready to settle in, eager to bond. For most, years of fun are still ahead, particularly when they receive the right care."

If you have ever lived with a senior pet, you already know how true this can be and you know that these dogs are even better companions than a puppy because they are all about comfort. These are the pups that are more likely to snuggle with you and want to spend downtime with you.

Older dogs especially can be super sweet and loving, and they can be just as much fun as a puppy, especially when they are feeling young at heart.

The idea of giving a senior animal a second chance at a happy home life is a reward all its own and we love the fact that Freshpet and Dr. Glass are doing their part to remind people of why adopting an older pet makes a lot of sense.
