All franchises have to start somewhere and for Scooby-Doo, it began with Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!
Premiering in 1969, the animated series has become a classic. We’ve come to know and love Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Gang which features Shaggy, Fred, Velma, and Daphne. They have such distinct personalities and beloved fans of each of them.
With October almost here, it’s only right to look back at the show that started it all and see how the original voice cast is doing, who is left, and what they’re up to now. If anything, it might give you some incentive to go back and watch Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!
If you’re curious about the original voice cast of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, we’ve got answers.
Where is the Scooby-Doo Where Are You! voice cast now? (2023)
Of course, we’re working with the info we have in 2023 so let’s start with the man, or should we say, dog of the hour and that’s Scooby. When the series originally premiered, Scooby-Doo was voiced by Don Messick. Messick would go on to voice Scooby in a lot of other projects before eventually passing away in 1997 at age 71. Messick made his mark as Scooby as he was even featured posthumously in 2020’s Scoob.
Moving onto Scooby’s sidekick, we have Shaggy Rogers. Roger was voiced by Casey Kassem who was a famous radio DJ and had one of those voices you just couldn’t forget. Kassem went on to voice Shaggy for decades and even returned later to voice Shaggy’s father in Mystery Incorporated. Kaseem passed away at age 82 in 2014.
Keeping with the guys, it’s time to talk about Fred Jones. Fred was originally voiced by Frank Welker and he is still voicing Fred now. Welker found something he loved to do and didn’t give up. Welker is also now the voice of Scooby-Doo and has voiced other iconic characters such as Megatron, Baby Kermit, and Curious George.
Let’s talk about the two ladies from the Mystery Gang and honestly, this is where things start to get tricky. Daphne Blake had two voice actresses with Indira Stefanianna for the first season who eventually gave it up because she had to move and then was replaced by Heather North. North went on to voice her until 2003 and died at age 71 in 2017.
Rounding out the list is our girl, Velma Dinkley. For Seasons 1 and 2 of the series, Nicole Jaffee voiced Velma and even returned to the role in the 2000s but has since retired from acting. For Season 3, Pat Stevens took over the role until 1980 and eventually passed away in 2010.
As you can see, it’s been a whirlwind from the start of the series and honestly, it makes me appreciate the franchise all the much more. If anything, it makes me want to go back and rewatch Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! to see if I notice any differences.
