Honestly, when it comes to our dogs, we have no problem spoiling them. And if that means having long conversations with them, then that’s what we do. So it should likely come as no surprise that a new study is actually taking a look at pet parents speaking to their dogs.

Ahead of National Dog Day, which fell on August 26, Preply decided to take a look at how likely it was for pet parents to chat with their pups. And this research also revealed which states are actually most likely to have pet parents who are talking to their dogs.

Preply surveyed 1500 pet parents to find out exactly how they interact with their dogs. From talking to their dogs to learning how these owners think their pets respond, it was definitely interesting to see some of the key findings of the study.

So what exactly did Preply determine about our dog chatting tendencies?

Study reveals where dog owners live who chat with their dogs

According to the Preply study,

"Nevada and New Jersey tie for the state whose residents are most likely to talk to their petsDog owners (83%) talk to their pets more than cat owners (68%)Most pet owners (55%) think their pet understands them more than people doOver half of Gen Z (53%) and 41% of Millennials feel their pet fills the role of a child"

While Nevada and New Jersey are in the top spot for states likely to talk to their dogs at 95 percent of owners chatting with their pets, they are followed closely by three other states. Those states are Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Missouri (they were at 93 percent each).

And which state is at the bottom of the list for talking to pets? That would be Montana.

Honestly, these findings made perfect sense to us in a lot of ways. We are actually not surprised to learn that 83 percent of dog owners are talking to their pets. And at the same time, the top five states to enjoy chatting with their pets was not much of a surprise either.

We love studies like this because they are so interesting and kind of act as a reminder that the way we interact with our pets is relatively normal!
