While some sports teams are dealing with drama, the Texas Rangers are dealing with puppies in comparison.

No really, the team is dealing with puppies for its latest charity effort. Started by Jacklyn Gray, this is a project close to her heart and it’s a 2023-2024 18-month calendar featuring both Texas Rangers players, staff, and pets.

Known as the team’s Pet Calendar, it’s a chance for the players to show their support for an amazing charity while also putting animals in the spotlight. Whether you’re a Rangers fan or not, there is no denying how much good this will do.

If anything, it should be an example that other professional sports teams follow as it’s all for a good cause.

Texas Rangers put the spotlight on pets in the new calendar for 2023-2024.

MLB has already spoken at length about the calendar in a recent article and honestly, it gave a lot of insight into why this decision was made. As I mentioned, it was spearheaded by Jacklyn Gray whose husband Jon Gray is a pitcher for the team.

It’s clear that Jacklyn is passionate about the project: “And to be able to partner with the Pawerful Rescue was definitely another dream come true. They’re really doing great work. The dogs that they’re helping are dogs that aren’t going to get the help they deserve. Or they’re senior dogs that are living out their last days, or just medical cases or abused, neglected dogs that really need the extra love and care. So we’re excited.” In addition, the team also hosted a MEGA Pet Adoption Event on July 29th in partnership with Sarah and Mitch Garver. Sarah is a veterinarian and rescue parent to two pups.

Frankly, I feel like this is such a great idea, and hope that other teams decide to follow the Rangers’ lead. Ultimately, it’s all about the adoptable animals and allowing them a chance at a forever home which is something to applaud. Hopefully, some of the players even decided to adopt animals as that would be even better.

Regardless if you buy a calendar or not, you’ll be happy in knowing that: “Since the beginning of the 2022 season, Jon Gray has also donated $100 per strikeout to The Pawerful Rescue.” At least we know Gray is putting the money where his mouth is and that’s always something to cheer for.
