The Met Gala has come and gone. Now, it’s time for the Pet Gala to rock your world but this time, the participants are much cuter.
Rather than focusing on celebrities and influencers, the Pet Gala was hosted in New York City and it featured dogs as the fashionistas. The kicker for the entire thing is that all of the dogs were rescue animals. Let’s also be clear there was one cat there, too.
I know that for my fellow dog and cat lovers, there is something so delightful about seeing your pet dressed up. Even though most of the time, they’re ready to rip it off as soon as possible yet sometimes, they do allow us to indulge.
For Anthony Rubio though, it goes beyond just the work he does for making sure the outfits look perfect for his models.
The Pet Gala puts our favorite looks on some cute and cuddly faces.
Rubio didn’t just begin this venture, though. As shared by the New York Post: “Rubio began recreating looks from the Costume Institute gala in 2013 as a photo project, auctioning off the garments for animal charities. But for the Pet Gala’s 10th anniversary, he wanted to do something more extravagant. He worked “morning, noon and night” for weeks, even sewing in the car on the way to the event.” As you can tell, the designer is very passionate about the Pet Gala and making sure his models look their absolute best.
While Rubio took inspiration from multiple celebrities, my favorites include the looks inspired by Salma Hayek, Naomi Campbell, and Dua Lipa. Ultimately, it’s all about confidence, and each of the dogs and the one cat had that in spades. Honestly, I don’t know how you couldn’t look at the pictures and not fall in love.
The outfits are just so cute and the animals look so happy to be modeling. It also inspired Rubio to think more broadly about the future. For 2024, he’s already thinking on a bigger scale with dinner and tickets with the proceeds going to animal shelters and rescues. I feel like the Met Gala always brings up conversations about excess, but in the case of the Pet Gala, that would be amazing.
It’s always awesome to see people using their platform for good which is exactly what Anthony Rubio is doing. Honestly, I’m interested to see what 2024 holds for the Pet Gala.
