Russell Crowe shared some truly devastating news about his “cheeky, brave” 16-month-old dog, Louis, via a Twitter post on March 30.
In the post, which featured a closeup picture of Louis’s face, we learned that the actor‘s Papillion had died after being hit by a truck. We don’t exactly know what happened or how the Papillion ended up getting hit, but in the end it doesn’t matter as the news itself is what matters.
The actor shared that on the second anniversary of his father’s death, Louis was hit by a truck and while being held in Crowe’s arms on the way to the veterinarian’s office he passed away. The actor also revealed that he made sure to tell Louis how much he was loved as they attempted to get the pup the help he needed.
According to Today.com, during an interview with a morning show after the dog’s passing, Russell Crowe opened up a bit about the loss of his dog and how devastated the family is by what has happened.

When the show hosts offered their condolences on the loss of Louis, they also asked how the actor was doing and if was “ok.” And he responded with,
"No, we’re actually a little devastated. He was such a beautiful little pup, and he kind of wrapped us around him and we shaped our lives around him. So that’s going to take a little time to get past."
Considering the pup had actually made more than one appearance on Russell Crowe’s social media, including a post from the holidays where the actor and dog wore matching shirts, we can’t help but feel like this loss has truly hit hard. We can’t imagine how heartbreaking it must have been for Crowe to not only lose their young dog in such a horrible manner, but also on the anniversary of his father’s death.
Condolences poured in from the actor’s followers and some famous friends as well, with many sending heartfelt messages, including Vincent D’Onofrio, David Alan Grier, and even PETA commenting on the Tweet.
We are sad to hear this news and we are sending our own well wishes to Russell Crowe and his family.
