When it comes to 9-1-1 Lone Star on FOX, there are a few reasons why we tune in. And one of them is to figure out what ever happened to Buttercup.

If you happen to be wondering who or what Buttercup is, it makes sense since we haven’t seen them in quite a long time, and definitely not at all up to this point in Season 4. But anyway. Buttercup is the Bernese Mountain Dog with cancer that Owen Strand adopted after he found out that he had cancer.

And after 10 episodes of 9-1-1 Lone Star’s 4th season, where we didn’t even see a glimpse of a dog, or any sign of a dog living with Owen, we finally got a scene featuring Buttercup! In the March 28 episode, Owen brings a woman home that he met at a fundraiser for the fire house. She apparently has money and after they have relations, she leaves him a check for $100,000. In an effort to figure out why exactly she left that money for him (was it for the fundraiser or something else), he agrees to another date with her. During that date at his home, Buttercup actually makes a surprise appearance.

9-1-1 Lone Star finally gives us some Buttercup time

In the scene, Owen talks about how Buttercup came into his life, and the fact that he rescued this dog because they had cancer. It’s an interesting moment between Owen and this new woman that leads to a bit more confusion after she sent him a Venmo for $40,000 with a bone emoji.

That scene actually leads to a second scene, where we get to see Owen brushing Buttercup’s fur while he lets the pup know why this has to happen (it’s so that the pup’s fur can look it’s very best). It is an adorable moment between dog and owner, that proves that even if we don’t see the unmissable Bernese Mountain Dog on our screens every week, that doesn’t necessarily mean that he isn’t getting plenty of love off screen.

We wish that 9-1-1 Lone Star would give us more Buttercup content, but we are very thankful that they used this episode to finally let us know what happened to Buttercup. For a while there it seemed like perhaps we had bad news when it came to Owen’s dog. Luckily, it looks like Buttercup is still doing quite well.
