For National Puppy Day in 2023, Camp Bow Wow has decided to reveal the top dog names for the year. And there may be some surprises.

When you adopt a puppy, you typically have to pick a name for them. For some of us dog names are very easy to come up with and for others we need some inspiration. Sometimes we pick a name that is very popular at the time or we go based on some thing we love. There are pop-culture reference that we might choose from or even baby names that we already love.

So how did Camp Bow Wow come up with their list of most popular dog names in 2023? It’s based on the more than 400,000 dogs and puppies that have entered their doors so far this year (they call them campers if you were wondering). And, of course, what exactly are the top names for dogs in 2023?

These are the top dog names of 2023 according to Camp Bow Wow

The top 10 dog names of campers who have visited Camp Bow Wow are:

  1. Luna
  2. Bella
  3. Charlie
  4. Daisy
  5. Lucy
  6. Cooper
  7. Max
  8. Bailey
  9. Milo
  10. Sadie

Honestly, there are some interesting names in this top 10 list. Luna has us thinking of Harry Potter, Bella has us thinking of twilight, and honestly, each of these names could’ve come from something in pop culture. But, there is actually a list of some of the most popular dog names inspired by pop culture and they are,

  • Dutton (Inspired by Yellowstone)
  • Rip (Also inspired by Yellowstone)
  • Hawkeye (Marvel gets a nod with this one)
  • Luca (This is a Disney one and we love it)

Oh, we love seeing what’s popular when it comes to dog names. And we really like all the names that made this list. Both the pop-culture inspired names, and the more neutral names on the list are all quite inspiring. Who knows, these names may continue in popularity through 2024 and beyond.

But we want to know what you think of these names. Do you have a puppy with one of these names? Would you use any of these names? Let us know in the comments below.
