If there is one thing that most dog owners know about their pups, it’s that they like to stick their head out the window when you’re driving. But Florida wants to make that illegal.

If you have a dog who loves car rides and sticking their head out the window, you may not want to drive in Florida with them. The reason for this is the fact that Florida wants to make it illegal for dogs to have any part of their body sticking out of car windows when the vehicle is being operated.

According to Fox News, as part of an animal welfare bill that was introduced by Democratic senator Lauren Book, if this bill passes it would be illegal for a dog owner to allow their pet to have their head or any part of their body sticking out of a motor vehicle window while that car was on a public roadway. Not only would it be illegal for them to be sticking out of the car, but dogs would also be required to either have a harness or seatbelt on. Of course, we are talking about the pet seatbelts and not a human seatbelt.

Florida looking to pass a law that makes it illegal for dogs to be sticking out of cars

When it comes to dogs in cars, we do love how cute they are. It’s adorable to see how excited they are for car rides. However, there are dangers associated with dogs sticking their heads out of those open windows. There are so many things that can happen including injury from things hitting their face. It’s a danger that is faced across the country. But, Florida wants to stop it from happening.

As this is a animal welfare bill, it’s not just about dogs in cars. Other things that this particular bill would cover include banning the sale of rabbits two months out of the year, specifically in March and April around Easter. Another thing that this bill would do is create a public list of people who have been convicted of animal abuse. Finally, this bill would also prohibit people from declining their cats.

Maybe it is us, but we actually really like this bill. There are a lot of very solid things that it would do to help animals. Anthropology while we hate the idea of taking away something that our dog loves, specifically sticking their head out of the car window, it’s it’s also something that isn’t really that safe for them. We hate the idea of it being truly illegal, but at the same time it is some thing that makes sense.
