When Bridgerton first aired, it quickly became one of Netflix’s most-watched series. The historical romance show is based on the book series by Julia Quinn and follows the Bridgerton family as they each fall in love. But besides the human characters, one of the characters everyone fell in love with is Newton the Corgi. But he wasn’t always the easiest scene partner.

Newton the Corgi is played by Austin in season 2 of the series. He’s the dog companion of the Sharma sisters, specifically the pet of Kate Sharma. But Austin sometimes needed a little encouragement to act in scenes. According to Luke Newton (no relation to the dog), the dog would bark over certain scenes until he was fed sausages.

Admittedly, he would probably eat just about any snack, but Newton took to keeping bits of sausage in his pockets for Austin while they were on set. This would ensure that Austin would behave or if nothing else, ensure you were on his good side.

As someone who also responds well to snacks and food incentives in general, I highly relate to Austin’s work ethic. I would definitely work more for a few slices of cake or a few handfuls of candy.

Besides being a fan of sausage, Newon is also one of eight brothers, was born in 2014, and works with trainer Joanna Mayston. She was the one who suggested he get into the acting business. And before taking the spotlight in Bridgerton, the corgi played one of the Queen’s corgis in The Windsors: The Royal Dynasty.

Whether Austin will be back playing Newton in season 3 of Bridgerton is still up in the air but since Kate is set to be returning, we can only hope her dog will be back as well.
