In Wyandotte, Michigan a police dog (Officer Ice) has gone viral after a Facebook post revealed that the K9 officer had allegedly stolen a fellow officer’s lunch. The post even featured a mugshot of the accused pup and a note that laid out the situation and asked for some feedback for how to proceed from followers.

According to NDTV, the post was shared to the Wyandotte Police Department’s Facebook page on January 12. In the post, the charges against Officer Ice were laid out as follows:

"Ofc. Barwig was eating lunch in the breakroom when he was called to assist with a person in the WPD jail. He quickly jumped into service, leaving his half eaten lunch on the table. A short while later Barwig and another officer returned to the breakroom only to find Ofc. Ice leisurely strolling out of the room licking his chops. Barwig’s entire lunch was gone….disappeared, vanished!Ofc. Ice has invoked his fifth amendment right to remain silent and quite frankly is not cooperating with the investigation. He has a history of rummaging through trash cans that are within his reach. There have been several other accusations of him taking food right from coworker’s hands as they walk by."

A police dog goes viral for allegedly stealing a fellow officer’s lunch

With over 25,000 reactions to the post and almost 9000 comments, it is clear that many people have seen the allegations against the canine officer. And right away many of the commenters were professing that officer ice was innocent until proven guilty. Not only that, but there were even lawyers who chimed in that they would defend the police dog if needed.

Some people even wanted to start a protest to protect that police dog from his accusers. And it seems like the reaction to the post lead to a follow up post on January 18 letting people know that Officer Ice would not face any charges and there would be no further investigations into the allegation. In the post, they explain that their followers do not believe that the pup is guilty. And they point out that there was no video evidence of any wrongdoing.

One of Officer Ice’s supporters who saw the original Facebook post even stopped by the police department with sandwiches for the K9 Officer, as well as his human coworkers. Not only was this a great way to make sure that the pup got a decent meal without having to worry about getting in trouble, but it was a nice act of goodwill to feed his fellow officers who may have had their own lunches go missing at some point in time under mysterious circumstances.

At the end of the day, it looks like Officer Ice has been exonerated. And we are very happy to see this. We actually love posts like this that help to connect communities and give us a better idea of exactly what our police dogs are doing while on the clock. Although, in this case it sounds like Officer Ice is spending a lot of time getting in trouble for his alleged eating habits.

What do you think fellow dog lovers? Do you think this canine was innocent? Do you agree with the Facebook followers defending this pup against these allegations? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
