Have you ever thought about making extra money as a dog walker? Well dog walkers in New York City are actually making over $100,000 per year!

Recently, we wrote about a former New York teacher who quit their job to be a dog walker. They went from a salary of just under $40,000 per year as a teacher, to making over $100,000 walking dogs. If that doesn’t make you consider becoming a dog walker, perhaps nothing well. But, his is not an isolated story. In fact, it seems that there are a number of dog walkers in New York who are making over $100,000 per year taking care of dogs.

According to the New York Times

"It is a lucrative time to be a dog walker, especially for pet entrepreneurs who cater to the wealthy. Though searches on Rover and other job sites yield beginner dog walkers in Manhattan who charge as little as $14 for a 30-minute walk, seasoned dog walkers with well-heeled clients are charging nearly three times as much, and earning $100,000 or more a year."

Apparently, prior to the pandemic there were dog walkers who would maybe receive a call or two every month for new clients. These new clients were looking for someone to walk their dog while they were at work, and make sure that they were well cared for. However, following the pandemic it seems that there has been a boom in business. And it makes sense when you think about how much time so many of us spent with our pets.

By spending so much time with our dogs and cats, we found a new appreciation for them. And it means that more and more people are looking for ways to continue to spoil their pets now that they’re back in the office. Not only that, but with so many people adopting new dogs during the pandemic, it has created an influx of business for these dog walkers.

With more people taking on not only dog walking as a job, but also things like overnight pet stays, housesitting with a dog, and more, it seems like this could be a truly lucrative career choice for people who love animals. This could be an opportunity for you to find a career that you love, that actually can handle paying the bills, while also giving you a chance to help someone else out with taking care of their beloved pet.

Obviously, not everyone is going to make $100,000 a year right away. In fact, most of these dog walkers built up to those amounts. However, that is not to say that this could not be a great side hustle or part-time job to help get those bills paid.

We want to know what you think about this trend in dog walking? Is this a career that you would take on? Would you become a dog walker if it meant making over $100,000 per year? Let us know in the comments below.
