Are you noticing that your dog is sneezing a lot? Have you ever wondered what will make your dog sneeze so much? We have some answers.

Especially during the winter, we often notice our dog sneezing more often. And while we sneeze when we are sick, because of allergies, or even just dust in the air, what about our dogs. Did those same things make our dogs sneeze? That is something we have always wondered, and thanks to The Dodo we have some answers.

Typically when a dog sneezes it is not really a cause for concern. This is especially true if they are only sneezing once or twice. And since a dog will sneeze when they are playing, it could always be a sign of happiness or excitement that they are experiencing. But, we know that sometimes it could be more. Usually, it’s when your dog is continually sneezing that you may need to be concerned.

So what does it mean if your dog is sneezing a lot? What could it be?

Why does my dog sneeze so much?

Some of the main reasons that a dog might be sneezing a lot are,

  • Playing – For a dog, sneezing is a sign of excitement and happiness. This is why they may sneeze more when they are actually playing. And this could be playing with other dogs or by themselves with their toys. They might do it when they’re outside running around or even if they are playing with you. It is all about their happiness and this is not a bad thing.
  • Allergies – Dogs get allergies too. And this is important to know, because sneezing can be a sign of that. If you think your dog is allergic to some thing, make sure you talk to their vet.
  • Irritation in their nose
  • A foreign object – Much like a child might stick a small toy up their nose, dogs can get things in their nose too. And if a foreign object enters their nose, sneezing is how they try and get it out. If your dog has been sniffing around outside something could’ve gone up into their nasal cavity. And the sneeze is how they try and dislodge it. This is another case of, if it continues and you think there is something blocking their nose you will want to reach out to your veterinarian.
  • A respiratory infection – Dogs can get sick too, just like us. It is important to pay attention to your dog and their health. If your dog is excessively sneezing and you do not know why, reach out to your veterinarian. It could be an infection that needs to be dealt with.

The main thing to consider when your dog seems to be sneezing a lot, is whether or not this is something that is happening regularly. One or two sneezes once in a while is no big deal, but you know your dog. This means that you know when something isn’t right. Pay attention to other things besides the sneeze, including are they more tired than normal, are they eating the way they normally would, and are they actually drippy in the nose. It’s not just about the sneeze when it comes to what could be wrong. And that’s the thing you need to pay attention to.
