Which breed of dog is the most stolen in London?
Since 2012 the Metropolitan police in London, England have been monitoring how many dogs are stolen every year, and what breed of dog they are. And based on the information that they have gathered, we now know what breed of dog is the most stolen in the city.
According to BBC news, since 2012 more than 3000 dogs have been stolen in London. Specifically there have been 3102 dogs taken from their owners. So which breed of dog was at the top of that list?
Based on the data gathered by the police out of 3102 dogs stolen, 496 of them were Staffordshire Bull Terriers! In fact, it seems that the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is so popular that even mixed breed Bull Terriers are being stolen, with 142 mixed breed Bull Terriers accounted for on that list.

So what are some of the other dog breeds that top of the list of most stolen in London? In the second spot would be the Chihuahua. Based on police numbers there were 209 Chihuahuas stolen in the city.
In the third spot for most stolen dog breed we have the French bulldog. For these adorable pups, there were 146 that were stolen.
Of course, the list also takes into account dogs who are stolen that don’t have a breed associated with them. There were 368 dogs stolen over that period of time that did not have a breed associated with them.
But why is this important to know? We find this information important so that we know which breeds are the most vulnerable to being taken. This is a chance to make sure that our pets are safe. Knowing which breed of dog is targeted by thieves, can mean the difference between keeping your dogs safe or having to report a theft to the police.
