We are just 9 short days away from Christmas Eve and 10 short days away from Christmas Day! While we’re all getting ready to indulge into some seriously delicious holiday-themed foods, we always wonder what our dogs are allowed to enjoy with us, am I right? On our next analysis of holiday foods and snacks, let’s see if this next food is something that dogs can totally indulge in as well!

Next in line, can dogs have almonds?

Let’s read more about if dogs can eat some almonds with ya on Christmas this year!

As a lot of different foods, for both dogs and humans, moderation is key. Almonds too?

The short answer is no. Almonds aren’t nearly as toxic as other nuts are to the pooches, but they should still be avoided. Long story short, they are just super hard to digest and can cause our pups some serious discomfort.

Here’s what could happen or certain symptoms to expect in your dogs:

  • Vomitting
  • Diarrhea
  • General discomfort
  • Lethargy
  • Loss of appetite
  • Gas

In addition, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC), almonds, like all nuts, are super high in fats and actually has the ability to cause pancreatitis in our dogs. This is very serious and should be looked at by your pup’s vet immediately!!

Still on the topic of almonds, flavored ones  should also be more so looked out for. Especially the spicy ones. In all honesty, anything spicy should be avoided with your pups, but that is pretty much common knowledge at this point.

Instead of almonds, try these nutty alternatives instead:

  • Peanut Butter (in a classic red Kong toy, this will keep your pup occupied for quite some time)
  • Cashews (in small quantities, of course)

Hot. Is it safe for dogs to eat eggs?. light

That’s a wrap on our analysis of it our pups can eat almonds this Christmas dinner!
