If there is one thing that many dog lovers associate with the late Queen Elizabeth II, it would have to be her love of the Corgi (and animals in general). With a love of Corgis that reaches all the way back to her childhood, it makes sense that over the years, the Queen’s love of the Corgi has reached around the world.

When the Queen was alive, the breed certainly gained popularity, with many associating the breed with royalty. But now that Queen Elizabeth has died, what happens with the breed’s popularity?

Well, at this point it looks like the Queen’s death has actually caused a surge in how much it costs to actually purchase a pureblood Corgi. According to El Pais, it seems that the price of a Corgi has reached an all time high.

The cost to purchase a Corgi has reached an all-time high following Queen Elizabeth’s

According to an online pet store in the United Kingdom following the death of the Queen on September 8,

"The prices asked for by registered corgi breeders have today hit a new high, with average asking prices doubling over the past three days."

Even when demand for pets and pups was at an all time high during the heart of the pandemic, the price of this particular breed did not jump as high as it has apparently done since the late monarch’s death. In fact, El Pais is reporting that.

"For the first time, a Corgi was selling for over £2,500 ($2,678), even outstripping prices reached during the pandemic, when there was a huge spike in demand for pets."

It’s crazy to think that because of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, the demand for the breed has reached levels that would actually lead to prices jumping up to this point. While purebred dogs are often quite expensive when buying from a breeder, this just seems like a lot.

Then again, for some this might feel like the last connection to a royal who was alive for the entire lives of so many. And we can understand wanting to own a pup that reminds so many of royalty and the crown.

The fact that this is not the first time Corgi prices has soared when thinking about Queen Elizabeth is also not a surprise. In fact, it seems that when the Queen was gifted Susan, the pup who helped to kickstart the many generations of Corgis in the castle, prices jumped up then as well.

However, when it comes to bringing home a pup, we can’t help but want to point out that there are so many dogs in shelters looking for their forever homes. While we understand the desire to own a Corgi, we also think hitting the shelter is much more satisfying when it comes to puppy ownership. And just think, it won’t cost you over $2,500 to bring home a loving dog.
