Planning a trip to Yosemite and wanting to know if you can bring your dog with you to the Yosemite National Park?

It’s an understandable question to have if you’re going to be traveling with your four-legged friend, after all, there’s nothing worse than arriving at a destination only to find out you can’t bring your pet in with you.

On one hand, Yosemite is a park and dogs tend to be permitted in most parks. However, this is a National Park we’re talking about and National Parks are known to have more strict standards and restrictions. So are pets allowed at Yosemite?

Can you bring dogs to Yosemite?

If you’re heading out to Yosemite with your dog, we have great news for you! Dogs are indeed allowed at the Yosemite National Park so long as you follow the few general rules laid out by the park.

First, all dogs are expected to be on a shorter leash no longer than six feet long and should never be left unattended. It’s also asked that you bring poop bags and clean up after your dog to help keep the park clean for all guests. Finally, it’s asked that those making their way out to the park be mindful of how they store their pet food keeping in mind that the park’s wildlife enjoys pet food too.

Are there any places you can’t bring your dogs in Yosemite?

While dogs are allowed in Yosemite, there are some restrictions the park has in place to protect pets, parkgoers and the park’s wildlife.

If you’re planning a vacation to the park, it’s helpful to know dogs are not permitted on most trails, on unplowed roads covered in snow, in undeveloped and wilderness areas, inside public buildings, on shuttle buses, in walk-in and group campgrounds and campsites, and in areas which have signs indicating no pets are allowed in the area.
