There are so many things to consider when giving our dogs a treat. And when we are making our own dog treats, some ingredients like yogurt seem key to being able to create a variety of tasty options for our pooch.

When it comes to spoiling Spot and Fido, there is something to be said for making our own treats and meals. Knowing exactly what is going into the things we are feeding our pups can be surprisingly satisfying for our peace of mind. And one ingredient that we often turn to for creating those treats (and meals) is none other than yogurt.

And while there are certainly yogurts that we know for a fact our dogs can’t enjoy, that doesn’t meant that every yogurt is bad. So that leaves us wondering is this dairy treat dog safe or if there is a specific type of yogurt that would be the best for our pups to enjoy.

Which yogurt is safe for our dogs to enjoy?

While yogurt is in fact dog friendly, it is not all of them. According to prrrs & wags by Pumpkin,

"Yogurt is a good source of protein, calcium, and probiotics, all of which boost your dog’s immune system and help them get over an upset stomach.Plain Greek-style yogurt is the healthiest yogurt for your dog."

Sounds good to us! Not only is this dairy offering a good thing for our pup in terms of their immune system, but in general knowing that the Plain Greek is the way to go means that we know exactly what to reach for when we are in the grocery store.

That being said, there are still a few things to consider before randomly grabbing that tub of Greek Yogurt. Specifically, you want to avoid any with artificial sweeteners, artificial ingredients in general, and any preservatives, all of which can be harmful to your pup.

Basically, while we know this can be a dog-safe treat or ingredient, it is still important to check those nutritional labels for ingredients that are in fact harmful.
