Have you ever looked at a pup and thought “what a cute little meatball?” Well, you are not alone. And for many dogs, it is all about those foodie thoughts when it comes to picking out the perfect name.
According to Talker, a recent study revealed that a shocking number of people are turning to food in order to name their dogs. And yes, Meatball is definitely one of those names they are reaching for.
Basically, forget Fido and Spot, now we have Biscuit and Dumpling! Okay, maybe don’t exactly forget Fido, as 32 percent of the people who responded to the study did say that they prefer those more traditional names for their dogs.
Out of 2005 Americans surveyed, it seems that 28 percent of them are turning to food in order to find the perfect name for their pups, while another 36 percent like more human sounding names.
Food is the perfect inspiration for naming our dogs
Among the factors that many of these people considered when it came to picking their perfect name for their dog, we have
- The dog’s gender (51 percent looked at this first before picking a name)
- A pet’s personality (49 percent)
- The actual size of the dog, including how big they will be (42 percent)
And in a lot of ways, these are also things that contribute to the many nicknames that our dogs end up with over time. As the study pointed out, a whopping 85 percent of the people who responded to the study indicated that they have at least one nickname for their furry friend.
We love the more unique dog names we hear and even a foodie-inspired dog name is one that we can get behind. And while none of our staff pups have foodie names (Ladybug, Sunny, and Gracie), we definitely wouldn’t mind adding an Avocado, a Peach, and a Biscuit to the mix in the future!
What do you say fellow dog lovers? Are you a fan of foodie names for dogs? What is your pup’s name? What is their nickname? We’d love to chat pet names in the comments.
