March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day and with the Shamrock Shake back on the McDonald’s menu for a limited time, you may be wondering how your pup can partake in this festive treat. And while our pups really shouldn’t be sipping on the shake from McDonald’s, that doesn’t mean that they can’t enjoy their very own take on this seasonal treat.

While it may not be a classic take on the Shamrock Shake, with the help of dog lovers over at Bring Fido, there is a smoothie that our dogs can enjoy this St. Patrick’s Day instead.

So what is this dog friendly take on the Shamrock Shake? Apparently the official (or maybe the unofficial) name of this drink is the Shamrock “Shake Your Tail” Smoothie. And it really is a green wonder!

And how can we make this treat for our pups?

How to make a dog friendly take on a Shamrock Shake

Technically with just five ingredients and two real steps, this is perhaps the easiest treat you will whip up for your pup.

What you need:

  • 2 Cups of fresh baby spinach leaves (rinse the leaves)
  • 1 Cup of strawberries that have been sliced
  • 1 Whole banana sliced
  • 1 Cup of ice cubes
  • 2 Cups of water

What to do:

  1. In a blender, add all of your ingredients (including the ice and water) and blend everything together until smooth.
  2. Pour the mix into a clean bowl and let your pup enjoy.

It may not seem much like a classic Shamrock Shake since there is no mint, but thanks to the spinach, this is an epically green creation that will definitely make you think of St. Patrick’s Day. (Honestly, this is even a people friendly smoothie so if you want to try it before sharing with your pup, you absolutely can.)
