The upcoming Channing Tatum Dog movie trailer promises a canine-centric buddy road trip filled with wacky adventures, and looks like a solid Valentine’s Day movie date picture if you feel comfortable going to movie theaters right now.

While we love dog movies here at Dog O’Day and appreciate the service of military dogs, a dog movie literally titled Dog makes it a must-see in our book.

Tatum plays a veteran seeking to rejoin his unit, and to do so is tasked with transporting the canine officer, Lulu the Belgian Malinois, of a fallen comrade across the country to attend her handler’s funeral.

Along the way there is plenty of chaos (including a highly illegal impersonation of a service dog), though they do eventually become friends and bond.

Channing Tatum Dog movie looks pawmising.

Lulu is described as a “demon dog” who chews up furniture, and is probably suffering from a canine form of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder following her tour of duty.

Besides Tatum (Dear John, Magic Mike, She’s the Man), the cast also includes Emmy Raven-Lampman (The Umbrella Academy), Jane Adams (Frasier) and Bill Burr (The Mandolorian).

It looks like it will have the mingled joy and sorrow of the odd 2008 road trip movie The Lucky Ones, which stars Rachel McAdams, Michael Pena and Timothy Olyphant as soldiers on leave, though perhaps focusing a little more on humorous elements than that movie does.

While the audience may be rather thin due to the ongoing pandemic and the February release date, the presence of Tatum should appeal to women, as would the dog in a main role, and perhaps the military aspect would appeal to men in the audience.
