The Albany FireWolves are doing very well in their inaugural season in the National Lacrosse League, currently riding a three-game win streak about halfway through the 2021-22 season.
The box (indoor) lacrosse team was formerly known as the Connecticut-based New England Black Wolves before moving to the New York State Capital Region in spring 2021, and immediately set about establish a canine mentality of teamwork and togetherness, naming the dance team the Wolf Pack and introducing mascot Alphie the Alpha Wolf.
After losing their first two games as the FireWolves 10-9 and 16-7 to the Toronto Rock and Rochester Knighthawks, Albany rebounded with a 10-5 triumph at home in the MVP Arena over the Saskatchewan Rush, following that up the next week with a 9-8 win at the Philadelphia Wings, and most recently hanging onto an 8-6 victory at home against the Halifax Thunderbirds.
This puts them in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, which would be a playoff position if they can keep up the hot streak.
The Albany FireWolves are doing fantastic so far this season in the National Lacrosse League.
While forward Ryan Benesch leads the team with 20 points so far, fellow forward Andrew Kew has the most goals with 10, and Benesch leads the team in assists at the moment with 13.
Goalie Doug Jamieson has an .814 save percentage and 194 saves in his time between the pipes, with his 9.02 goals against average currently tied for second-best in the league.
What’s more, the community engagement through social media posts seems to be at a strong level, as Albany is well-versed in lacrosse knowledge.
The FireWolves next face a road contest on Friday, February 4 at 7:30 p.m. ET at the Georgia Swarm (2-4).
