The premium pet food company Stella and Chewy’s is donating over three million meals to animal shelters across the nation for Giving Tuesday 2021 as part of their Journey Home Fund program.
The Wisconsin-based company, founded in 2003, is donating 3.4 million meals, to be exact, to shelters in Alabama, California, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Oregon and Wisconsin, and possibly more in other states as well.
To kick off this giveaway, Stella and Chewy’s hosted a Furry Friendsgiving event in the Milwaukee area as they donated pet food to several area shelters.
“At Stella and Chewy’s, we’re devoted to helping shelter pets live the great lives they deserve and supporting shelters in the process,” company founder Marie Moody said in a press release. “Our Journey Home Fund allows us to give back to organizations that share our commitment to the health and wellbeing of dogs and cats, and we’re pleased to be in a position to help shelters in our own backyard, as well as shelters throughout the country with our largest donation to date.”

The company has had a adoption-fee-reimbursement program each November that applies to any senior dog adopted in the US or Canada during the month, so this is just the latest in their rescue outreach efforts.
Stella and Chewy’s is headquartered in the Milwaukee suburb of Oak Creek, and much like how Three Dog Bakery got started, developed from health issues in one of Moody’s own rescue dogs (Chewy, in this case) that led to experimenting with cooking for them. That evolved into a raw-based line of food for dogs and cats that comes in freeze-dried, kibble, and wet food varieties depending on their needs.
