2021 Week 13 saw the end of the college football regular season, and a variety of canine schools and vet schools did very well.

Not all NCAA Division I canine schools use canine nicknames for their teams, of course; some use live or costumed canine mascots, and then schools with vet programs also count for our purposes.

As always, the Dogs of Instagram and Twitter were wearing their favorite team jerseys, bandannas and more while cheering their team on from the comfort of the living room couch as they ate up the Thanksgiving leftovers.

2021 Week 13 began on Tuesday, November 23 in the Mid-American Conference, as Mission’s Northern Illinois Huskies fell to the Western Michigan Broncos 42-21. NIU is now 8-4 (6-2) for the season and plays in the MAC Championship Game next week.

2021 Week 13 saw canine schools finish out the college football regular season pretty well.

In the Southeastern Conference on Thanksgiving Night, Bully’s Mississippi State Bulldogs fell 31-21 in the Egg Bowl to the No. 9 Ole Miss Rebels to end to the year at 7-5 (4-4).

In the Mountain West Conference, the Fresno State Bulldogs crushed the San Jose State Spartans 40-9 to finish out the regular season at 9-3 (6-2).

On Black Friday in the Atlantic Coast Conference, Tuffy’s No. 20 North Carolina State Wolfpack earned the 34-30 victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels to improve to 9-3 (6-2) for the year.

In the Mountain West in a nationally-televised CBS matchup, the Boise State Broncos (who have a tee retrieval dog at home games) dropped an early morning road game to the San Diego State Aztecs 27-16. Boise State is now 7-5 (5-3).

The New Mexico Lobos were pummeled by the Utah State Aggies 35-10, ending their year at 3-9 (1-7 MWC).

In the Pac-12 Conference, the vet school Washington State Cougars (7-5, 6-3) claimed the Apple Cup with a 40-13 triumph over Dubs’ Washington Huskies (4-8, 3-6).

On Saturday, November 27, Uga’s No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs (12-0, 8-0 SEC) cruised to an easy win in the series called Clean Old-Fashioned Hate, swatting the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (3-9, 2-6 ACC) 45-0 in the ABC afternoon game.

In the SEC, Reveille the Collie’s No. 16 Texas A&M Aggies were upset by the vet school LSU Tigers 27-24; A&M wraps up at 8-4 (4-4 SEC) while LSU will go bowling at 6-6 (3-5 SEC).

Smoky the Coonhound’s Tennessee Volunteers cruised to an in-state victory against Vanderbilt, as the Volunteers topped the Commodores 45-21 to end the season at 7-5 (4-4) SEC).

Holland the Pup‘s Florida Gators held on in The Swamp to beat in-state rival Florida State with a final score of 24-21, as the Gators improve to 6-6.

ACC play saw the Virginia Tech Hokies finish out at 6-6 (4-4) following their 29-24 triumph on the road against the Virginia Cavaliers.

In Conference USA, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs end the regular season at 3-9 (2-6 SEC) after after losing to the Rice Owls 35-31.

The Arkansas State Red Wolves’ rough season ended at 2-10 (1-7 Sun Belt Conference) following a 24-22 loss to the Texas State Bobcats.

In the Mountain West, the Nevada Wolf Pack earned a 52-10 triumph on the road at the vet school Colorado State Rams. Nevada finishes the regular season at 8-4 (5-3 MWC) while CSU ends up at 3-9 (2-6 MWC).

In a nonconference game between former American Athletic Conference members, Jonathan’s UConn Huskies were toppled 45-17 by the Houston Cougars. UConn ends the year at 1-11 and fans can now turn their full attention to basketball season.

Now to see how vet schools not previously mentioned fared during 2021 Week 13…

On Black Friday, the Missouri Tigers came up short in their annual CBS rivalry game with the No. 25 Arkansas Razorbacks, falling 34-17. Mizzou finishes the regular season 6-6 (3-5 SEC).

In the Big 12, the Kansas State Wildcats lost to the Texas Longhorns in Austin in the Fox afternoon game22-17, K-State goes into bowl season at 7-5 (4-5 Big 12).

The Iowa State Cyclones pounded the TCU Horned Frogs by the score of 48-14 to wrap up the regular season at 7-5 (5-4 Big 12).

On Saturday in the Big Ten East Division-deciding clash, the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes (10-2, 8-1) were beaten 42-27 by the Michigan Wolverines in a snow game televised on Fox.

In the afternoon ABC matchup in the Pennsylvania snow, the No. 12 Michigan State Spartans held on to a 30-27 win over the Penn State Nittany Lions. MSU heads into bowl season at 10-2 (7-2 Big Ten).

The Illinois Fighting Illini ended on a good note, defeating the Northwestern Wildcats 47-14 to finish at 5-7 (4-5 Big Ten).

The Purdue Boilermakers soundly thumped the Indiana Hoosiers 44-7 to end the year at 8-4 (6-3 Big Ten).

In the afternoon Fox game played for Paul Bunyan’s Axe between a pair of vet schools, the Minnesota Golden Gophers upset the No. 14 Wisconsin Badgers 23-13. Both teams wrap up the regular season at 8-4 (6-3 Big Ten).

In the Big 12, Bedlam was the ABC night game, and the No. 7 Oklahoma State Cowboys rallied to beat the No. 10 Oklahoma Sooners 37-33, preventing a repeat matchup in the Big 12 Championship Game next week. OK State is now 11-1 (8-1) on the season.

In the Pac-12, the Oregon State Beavers were defeated by the No.11 Oregon Ducks in Eugene by a 38-29 score, as Oregon State wraps up the regular season at 7-5 (5-4 Pac-12).

The Arizona Wildcats fell to the Arizona State Sun Devils 38-15 to finish the year at 1-11 (1-8 Pac-12).

Finally , the Cal Golden Bears were defeated 42-14 by the UCLA Bruins to finish out at 4-7 (3-5 Pac-12).

So that’s how canine schools did during 2021 Week 13, and now onto Championship Saturday before basketball begins in earnest and the other fall sports head into their postseasons.
