Victoria Justice is mourning the loss of her beloved dog Sophie.

The Nickelodeon alumna recently announced the news via an Instagram post, which was reported on by People Magazine.

Unfortunately, Justice was not able to be with Sophie as she crossed the Rainbow Bridge, as she was filming a project in Australia at the time. The post came on what would have been the pup’s 13th birthday, which means Sophie was around 90 in dog years.

“I’ve had Sophie for 13 years & knowing that I couldn’t be with her and hug & kiss her during her last moments was awful. But, she’s no longer in pain & that gives me peace. But on a more positive note, this dog was SO loved!!” Justice captioned the post.

Sophie was either born or adopted on October 28, 2008, and she passed away September 7, according to the caption.

Justice praised the small white dog (probably a terrier of some kind) for her “sassy, independent and opinionated personality,” and she was very affectionate, especially with visitors.

Sophie was adopted at the same time and together with her litter brother Sammie, who together made Justice’s teenage years incredibly happy.

Victoria Justice is best known as one of the stars of the Nick TV show Victorious (best known now as where Ariana Grande got her start in entertainment), though she got her start on Jamie Lynn Spears’ Zoey 101, and has also starred in the 2021 souls-return-to-earth-to-complete-a-task film Afterlife of the Party and has had guest spots on Gilmore Girls, iCarly, and Undateable, among others.

She also has released a dozen pop music singles, and hosted the 2020 Nick Kids Choice Awards, which were held virtually due to the pandemic.
