2021 Wek 9 of the college football season saw a lot of canine mascots and vet schools do well on Saturday.

As always, the football dogs across the nation were supporting their teams by wearing the appropriate T-shirts, jerseys, collars, etc., and helped enjoy the snacks from the comfort of the living room, kitchen or backyard.

For our purposes, 2021 Week 9 began in the Mountain West Conference on Friday, October 29, as the Nevada Wolf Pack (6-2, 3-1 MWC) soundly thumped their in-state rivals the winless UNLV Rebels by a 51-20 score.

On Saturday, October 30, in the Southeastern Conference, Uga’s No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs faced ‘s Florida Gators in Jacksonville for The Game Formerly Known as the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party on CBS, cruising to a 34-7 victory as UGA improves to 8-0, 6-0 SEC, while Florida drops to 4-4, 2-4.

Elsewhere in the SEC, Bully’s Mississippi State Bulldogs upset the No. 17 Kentucky Wildcats 31-17, improving to 5-3, 3-2 while UK drops to 6-2, 4-2.

In the Mountain West, the Fresno State Bulldogs (7-2, 4-1 MWC) upset the No. 21 San Diego State Aztecs (7-1, 4-1 MWC) 30-20 on the road.

In the ACC, Tuffy’s North Carolina State Wolfpack (6-2, 3-1) won comfortably 28-13 against the Louisville Cardinals (4-4, 2-3).

In Conference USA, the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech (2-6, 1-3 C-USA) were beaten by the Old Dominion Monarchs (2-6, 1-3 C-USA) with a 23-20 final score.

In the Sun Belt Conference, the Arkansas State Red Wolves’ (1-7, 0-4) rough year continued, as they lost 31-13 to the Jaguars of South Alabama (5-3, 2-3).

And in the Pac-12 Conference, Dubs’ Washington Huskies beat the Stanford Cardinal 20-13 to improve to 4-4, 3-2, while Stanford is now 3-5, 2-4).

Moving on to vet schools without canine mascots, we have the following…

In the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Virginia Tech Hokies bested the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 26-17, as VT improves to 4-4, 2-2 while GT falls to 3-5, 2-4.

In a Big Ten Conference clash between ranked teams, the No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes hosted the No. 20 Penn State Nittany Lions in the ABC night game, with Ohio State hanging on for a 33-24 victory. Ohio State improves to 7-1, 5-0 while Penn State drops to 5-3, 2-3.

In the morning Fox matchup between two unbeaten teams, the No. 8 Michigan State Spartans hosted the No. 6 Michigan Wolverines, rallying from behind in the rain to capture the 37-33 win and hang onto the Paul Bunyan Trophy.

The Wisconsin Badgers upset the No. 9 Iowa Hawkeyes 27-7 in another Big Ten game, Wisconsin improving to 5-3, 3-2, while Iowa falls to 6-2, 3-2.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers (6-2, 4-1 Big Ten) won against the Northwestern Wildcats (3-5, 1-4 Big Ten) by a wide margin, 41-14.

Finally in the Big Ten, the Purdue Boilermakers (5-3, 3-2 Big Ten) won 28-23 over the Nebraska Cornhuskers (3-6, 1-6 Big Ten).

The Illinois Fighting Illini, coming off a record nine-overtime victory last week, couldn’t keep the momentum going, as they were defeated by the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 20-14. Illinois is now 3-6, 2-4, while Rutgers is 4-4, 1-4.

In the SEC, the No. 18 Auburn Tigers defeated the No. 10 Ole Miss Rebels 31-20, as Auburn improves to 6-2, 3-1, while Ole Miss drops to 6-2, 3-2 on the season.

The Missouri Tigers (4-4, 1-3 SEC) were also winners, triumphing 37-28 over the Vanderbilt Commodores (2-7, 0-5 SEC).

In the Big 12 Conference, the No. 15 Oklahoma State Cowboys destroyed the Kansas Jayhawks 55-3, as OK State moves to 7-1, 4-1 as KU falls to 1-7, 0-5.

Also, the No. 22 Iowa State Cyclones (5-3, 3-3 Big 12) were beaten on the road 38-31 by the West Virginia Mountaineers (4-4, 2-3 Big 12).

Finally in the Big 12, the Kansas State Wildcats (5-3, 2-3) were winners 31-12 in an all-purple clash against the TCU Horned Frogs (3-5, 1-4).

In the Mountain West, the tee-retrieval-dog-hosting Boise State Broncos (4-4, 2-2) won against the vet school Colorado State Rams (3-5, 2-2) 28-19.

In the Pac-12 Conference, the Washington State Cougars were victorious over the Arizona State Sun Devils 34-21, as Wazzu is now 5-4, 4-2 and ASU is 5-3, 3-2.

In a battle of Pac-12 vet schools, the California Golden Bears (3-5, 2-3) topped the Oregon State Beavers (5-3, 3-2) by a 39-25 score.

The independent UMass Minutemen were topped by the Liberty Flames 62-17. UMass falls to 1-7 for the season, while Liberty is now 7-2 overall.
