With the end of summer and the start of the Fall season, there are a lot of new, fresh produce products dropping in the grocery stores and Farmer’s Markets, including pumpkin, apples and figs. But, we have already figured out whether or not apples and pumpkins are safe for our dogs to eat. That means we are turning to the ancient, tear drop shaped fruit as our next fruit on the “is it safe” list.

The thing about figs is that we already know that they are good for us to eat. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are safe for our dogs to snack on.

So the question we have is whether or not this autumnal fruit is actually safe for our dogs to eat.

Are figs safe for dogs to eat?

The answer is actually a resounding yes. It actually is safe for dogs to eat figs!

According to The Dog People by Rover, much like with humans, the fact that this fruit is “rich in dietary fiber” is actually part of the reason why this is a dog safe produce. It also helps that this fruit offers a “great source of natural sugar, which will give your pet an energy boost without the sugar crash that follows a dose of refined sugar.”

The only thing you will want to do when offering this fruit to our pups is to start small to make sure they are not allergic to figs. Once you determine if your dog can enjoy figs safely, then you can add them to your pups dietary rotation.

Because you don’t want to give too much dietary fiber to your pups, it is recommended that we still to only feeding this fruit to your dog two or three times per week at the most.

What do you think fellow dog lovers? Is this a Fall fruit that you are excited to give your dogs? Or have you already added figs to your pup’s diet? We want to know.
