Winnie was a scene stealer in premiere episode of Only Murders in the Building

Only Murders In The Building -- Episode 101 -- From the minds of Steve Martin, Dan Fogelman and John Hoffman comes a comedic murder-mystery series for the ages. “Only Murders In The Building” follows three strangers (Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez) who share an obsession with true crime and suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one. When a grisly death occurs inside their exclusive Upper West Side apartment building, the trio suspects murder and employs their precise knowledge of true crime to investigate the truth. As they record a podcast of their own to document the case, the three unravel the complex secrets of the building which stretch back years. Perhaps even more explosive are the lies they tell one another. Only Murders in the Building starring Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Selena Gomez has officially premiered on Hulu, with three episodes available for streaming. And if you are hoping to savor these first three episodes, we totally understand. After all, our next new episode isn’t until Sept. 7.

But while the stars of the series are definitely in a league of their own (and we love each of them in their own ways), it wasn’t Short, Martin, or Gomez who was a scene stealer in the first episode of Only Murders in the Building, “True Crime.” In fact, it wasn’t even a human who stole the show.

In “True Crime,” it was actually Winnie the Bulldog who had our attention.

Only Murders in the Building gives us a dog to root for as they introduce us to Winnie

But who is Winnie? Or really, who is Winnie’s owner?

Martin Short plays Oliver Putnam, a Broadway director living in the Arconia building. And Winnie is apparently his beloved Bulldog.

How do we know that Winnie is beloved? Well, because Oliver has a very nice doggy stroller for his pup and makes sure that his pup has whatever they need. And the cuteness is real.

At one point, we even see Winnie with tongue out being pushed in the stroller as Oliver and his new friends (friends might be a stretch, but as the series progresses, it could happen) from the Arconia head back to the building.

The scene itself is pretty benign, but it also feels like a very important moment. (And in some ways it is, as it sets the stage for what is to come.) The fact that Winnie is there and basically stealing the spotlight from three amazing actors is all we need to know when it comes to making us want more of Only Murders in the Building.

Have you watched the premiere episode of Only Murders in the Building? What did you think? Are you as excited to see a pup in the premiere as we are? Do you think Winnie was a scene stealer too? Let us know dog lovers.
