What’s out there when it comes to Arizona high school feline mascots?

Here at Dog O’Day we’re sniffing out all the animal mascots across the country as best we can, using Mascot DB as our primary source.

We apawlogize if we misspelled your school or left it out by mistake.

Arizona high school sports are governed by the Arizona Interscholastic Association, which places the highest enrollment of schools at 6A and the lowest at 1A.

What Arizona high school feline mascots are there?

Arizona high school feline mascots are most represented by the Cougars, as 14 schools use this name, or a variation of it. They are as follows: the Bisbee Pumas, Bowie-San Simon, Casa Grande, Chino Valley, Gilbert Desert Hills, Gilbert Perry Pumas, Glendale Kellis, Glendale Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions, Tucson Mountain View Mountain Lions, Phoenix Christian, Mesa Red Mountain Mountain Lions, Rock Point, Tucson Sahuaro and Show Low.

Also scoring highly are the Panthers, with 11 schools – Bowie, Flagstaff Coconino, Phoenix Career Success, Phoenix Maryvale, Surprise Paradise Honors, Peoria, Phoenix Precision, Prescott Tri-City College Prep, Superior, Tucson Ampitheater and Young – using this nickname.

Since the University of Arizona is the Wildcats, it isn’t that surprising that high schools would also pick that name, as nine have: Chinle, Cibecue, Ciebecue Dishchii’bikoh, Duncan Wildkats, Gilbert Mesquite, Joseph City, Mayer, Morenci and Surprise Willow Canyon.

Gilbert, Goodyear Millennium, Kingman Academy, Lake Havasu City Telesis Prep, Tucson Marana, and Saint David are all the Tigers, along with the Phoenix Skyline Bengals.

There are five Jaguars, at  Anthem Boulder Creek, Mesa Desert Ridge, Tucson Desert View, Phoenix Maya and Phoenix South Mountain.

Four schools use Lions as their mascot, Peoria Liberty, Phoenix Alhambra, Tucson Pusch Ridge Christian, and Phoenix Teleos Prep.

Three schools each use Bobcats (Benson, Phoenix Central, Vail Cienega) and Sabercats (Scottsdale Saguaro, Tucson Sabino, San Tan Foothills), while Fredonia and the Academy of Tucson are both the Lynx.

Good luck to all these schools’ sports teams, and stay safe this school year.
